Polymerization of a Monomer

Electrochemical Polymerization of a Monomer Experiment Kit 990-00464.

In this experiment the students polymerize 3-methylthiophene electrochemically into poly(3-methylthiophene). During the course of the experiment the students study the effects of varying the concentration of electrolyte, deposition time, and applied voltage on the formation of the polymer. To do this they use their freshly produced polymer to perform Cyclic Voltammetry on a catechol solution and compare the peak-to-peak separation for each run.
